PSS Systems CEO Deidre Paknad to Keynote Data Management and Compliance Summit at NetWorld+Interop 2005
Presentation to Focus on Optimizing Business Processes for Information Management

PALO ALTO, California, April 11, 2005 — Deidre Paknad, president and CEO of PSS Systems, the leading provider of information policy management solutions, will keynote the Data Management & Compliance Summit at the Networld+Interop 2005 conference in Las Vegas on May 4, 2005. The presentation, “Effective Business Process Analysis and Data Classification,” will focus on one of the most challenging issues in information management today: how to identify data at the point of creation to enable richer policy-driven retention and management. Ms. Paknad will also be participating in a panel discussion on “Naming Data: Practical Approaches to an Intractable Problem.”

“Most Information Lifecycle Management and compliance solutions available today fail to deliver on their promise. They do little to manage data or optimize underlying capacity utilization efficiency,” said Jon William Toigo, founder and chairman, Data Management Institute. “To manage data, four basic things are needed: 1) A data classification scheme and a way to apply it; 2) A storage classification scheme that identifies performance and cost characteristics; 3) An access frequency counter that measures and records information access; and, 4) A policy-driven data mover that automates data migration under the right circumstances to the right platform and manages the end of its lifecycle. PSS Systems is perhaps the only company with an elegant solution to the problem of classifying data at point of creation, so we are pleased to have Deidre lead this important discussion.”

“The conference is a timely one because we are now in a perfect storm with the tremendous explosion in the amount of data, the increasing diversity of data types and storage media, and new, higher standards for electronic discovery and litigation compliance,” said Deidre Paknad, president and CEO of PSS Systems. “Very few companies have the control and transparency they need to cost-effectively manage these pressures. Identifying data at the point of creation and managing its lifecycle according to policies that reflect business and legal needs as well as IT goals reduces cost, risk, and complexity.”
