Mountain View, California, October 24, 2006 — PSS Systems, the market leader in legal holds and retention management solutions, today announced two critical corporate accelerators to better enable enterprises to respond to revisions in Federal Rules of Civil Procedure on Discovery which go into effect on December 1, 2006. These revisions require companies to disclose their retention practices for both physical and electronic data, to identify and disclose the sources of this data in the enterprise and to effectively and completely preserve and produce that data in litigation.

This will allow companies that have not yet developed an enterprise retention program to quickly adopt a corporate classification structure and master retention policy sets, and to quickly tailor and institutionalize them in their enterprise. Ryley Carlock & Applewhite, a leading law firm specializing in retention program development and discovery, has developed this accelerator kit for use with Atlas ERM and the firm offers legal services and research to tailor the accelerator kit to specific corporate requirements. The bundle significantly reduces the cost of – and therefore greatly accelerates – traditional program development by making available a broad set of standard retention schedules with Atlas ERM out of the box. Atlas ERM is used by some of the world’s largest companies to establish and administer retention programs across business units, geographies, and data sources.

• Data Mapping Accelerator: PSS Systems is making access to its Atlas map available to Atlas ERM and Atlas LCC users at no additional cost. The Atlas map enables litigators, discovery staff, IT and records teams to map and document information sources by business unit, functional data types, stewardship and administration roles, and their use within the business. This map encompasses all of the disparate sources of data, from highly structured application data to unstructured data on file shares to paper records stored in physical warehouses and to inventories of legacy data and backup tapes. The map synchronizes with Atlas LCC legal holds and collections software so that specific data sources can be identified as relevant to litigation. It also synchronizes with Atlas ERM so that the data sources can be identified as the target repository for specific records classes to link in actual retention practices. Many companies today are engaged in a data mapping exercise for litigation in response to the new Federal Rules. Unfortunately, this is a lost exercise unless they are able to connect the data sources with their ongoing legal holds obligations and to their actual retention practices. The data mapping accelerator kit combined with the Atlas suite makes it possible to achieve both the letter and the spirit of the new Rules and provides a sustainable approach going forward.
