PSS Systems Announces Support for the EDRM XML Standard to Improve the Entire e-Discovery Process
New Generally-Accepted Schema Facilitates Movement of Electronic Data Among Process Steps, Applications and Organizations
Mountain View, CA — October 24, 2007 — PSS Systems, pioneer of the legal holds and enterprise retention management software market, today announced its support for the new Extensible Markup Language (XML) standard created by the Electronic Discovery Reference Model (EDRM) Project. PSS Systems is an active participant in the EDRM Project and its XML sub-committee, which were created to establish standards and guidelines for the electronic discovery market.
“Standards help reduce costs for corporations while improving consistency and quality,” said Deidre Paknad, President and CEO of PSS Systems. “We are pleased to support the EDRM XML standard in Atlas LCC; our clients benefit from a common standard for collecting and moving ESI and from straight-thru processes that remove steps and data handling.”
The goal of the new XML standard is to provide a standard, generally accepted schema to facilitate the movement of electronically stored information (ESI) from one step of the electronic discovery process to the next, from one software application to the next and from one organization to another. It helps all electronic discovery practitioners reduce costs and risks by synchronizing different data formats used within different systems. PSS Systems' Atlas LCC software for legal holds and collection management for corporate litigation team departments will support this standard in four key functional areas:
“The XML standard addresses a major pain point within e-discovery — moving and formatting the different types of data across all of these disparate systems — and is an important step towards streamlining the process,” said George Socha, co-founder of EDRM and president of Socha Consulting LLC. “By adopting this standard, PSS Systems is taking a leadership position in creating greater efficiencies within the e-discovery process.”
About PSS Systems
PSS Systems started the legal holds and retention management software revolution in the early 2000s by envisioning the looming change in corporate legal requirements. The Atlas software suite from PSS reduces cost, burden and risk for the world's leading financial services, pharmaceutical, oil and gas, telecommunications, technology, and consumer products companies. Atlas LCC streamlines the legal holds and collection processes end to end, while Atlas ERM enables corporate retention programs across disparate business units, information sources and systems. With tens of thousands of legal holds, collections and retention schedules under Atlas management, few companies have more domain expertise than PSS Systems. PSS Systems continues to lead the industry with unparalleled innovation and through the CGOC, which it founded in January 2004 as a practitioners' community on retention and preservation. PSS Systems is headquartered in Mountain View, California, with offices throughout the United States including New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, and Houston. About the EDRM Project
The Electronic Discovery Reference Model (EDRM) Project was launched in 2005 to address the lack of standards and guidelines in the electronic discovery market. The completed reference model provides a common, flexible and extensible framework for the development, selection, evaluation and use of electronic discovery products and services. Information about EDRM is available at www.edrm.net.
