CGOC Launches New Blog on Preservation with Tom Lahiff, Former Assistant General Counsel, Litigation, of Citigroup
Focus Exclusively on Legal Holds and Retention Practices

Mountain View, CA — November 14, 2007 — CGOC today announced that Tom Lahiff, former Assistant General Counsel, Litigation, of Citigroup, will author a blog on retention and preservation topics, which will be published on the CGOC web site. The CGOC is a practitioner's community forum founded by President and CEO of PSS Systems, Deidre Paknad, to provide legal and compliance executives insight and information on the intersection of retention and preservation processes.

“Legal holds and retention processes will be among the greatest challenges facing corporate and retained counsel in 2008 and 2009,” said Tom Lahiff. “Preservation triggers, staggering volumes of legacy data, complex business environments, and evolving standards of reasonableness all contribute to a dynamic challenge for practitioners. I’m excited to take an active part in advancing the discussion and analysis with this blog. I’m delighted to do so in conjunction with CGOC because of its reputation for thought leadership in this area.”

The blog will focus on the under-addressed topics of legal holds. It will include discussion of preservation triggers, managing and monitoring legal holds, case law analysis and relevant fact patterns, and the balance of responsibility between inside and outside counsel. Tom will also discuss the intersection of legal holds and record retention practices and related business practices and case law. Unlike forums focused on e-discovery review and production or those focused on records management, the blog will follow the CGOC precedent of deep attention to legal holds and the intersection with modern retention practices.

“The CGOC is where retention and preservation practices — and practitioners — come together,” said Deidre Paknad, President and CEO of PSS Systems. “Tom’s blog is an excellent resource for in-house counsel struggling to understand the rapidly evolving standards for legal holds and to determine best practices for synchronizing holds with retention practices. Tom is very knowledgeable, an early business leader in this area, and his experience as both in-house and outside counsel are critical perspectives now.”

Tom’s blog, “Retention and Preservation” launched November 14, 2007 and can be accessed at www.cgocouncil.com/blog/. Tom will be posting his opinion and commentary on new cases, preservation topics, and industry news and events.
