New Version of Atlas Reduces Costs and Risks of Legal Holds and Global Retention as Featured at LegalTech
Latest version increases Atlas litigation and compliance advantages for customers

New York, NY — February 5, 2008 — PSS Systems, pioneer of the legal holds and enterprise retention management software market, announced today at LegalTech New York the release of Atlas LCC and Atlas ERM 3.1. The latest versions of the industry leading legal hold and retention management software provides enhanced features for globalizing retention programs, synchronizing legal and IT activities and enforcing and monitoring compliance with legal holds.

“We are the innovative force in the legal holds and retention management market and this latest release of Atlas further extends our solution leadership,” said Deidre Paknad, President and CEO of PSS Systems. “The new features help companies like Sprint more quickly scope the people, systems and data involved in litigation, scale their retention programs globally, and more effectively monitor compliance across business units and disparate repositories. This latest Atlas release further reduces customers’ costs and risks and increases the advantages of Atlas.”

After the passing of the new judicial rules, Sprint’s Legal department “determined that legal holds was our biggest area of risk. Manually tracking all the processes for legal holds was laborious and risked inconsistencies. One of the first decisions we made was to bring in software to automate our legal holds process” said Cathy Muir, Senior Corporate Counsel at Sprint.1 “Atlas LCC is a comprehensive workflow solution that helps companies effectively and efficiently manage legal hold and collection processes. Atlas ERM enables companies to revitalize their retention practices across disparate data sources in concert with meeting legal hold obligations. It’s a smart solution for addressing legal obligations, reducing risk and cost.”

New and enhanced legal holds and discovery management features in Atlas LCC include:

  • Dynamic scoping of legal holds from current and past matters with drag and drop selection of relevant custodians
  • Data source management to track holds by data source and capture the costs of data collection and restoration
  • Discovery cost forecasting to predict quarterly and annual discovery costs by business units
  • Drag and drop repository mapping to rapidly and efficiently catalog where information is stored

New and enhanced enterprise retention management features in Atlas ERM include:

  • Country and jurisdiction based retention management “templates” to accelerate global retention programs and more efficiently model the differences in laws across countries
  • Drag and drop user interface to easily map document types, drafts, copies, and records to the disparate repositories and locations where they are stored

The Atlas software suite is designed to help companies effectively and efficiently determine what information must be retained for business or regulatory purposes, what must be preserved and collected for litigation, and to routinely dispose of unneeded data. The suite is comprised of modules for the corporate stakeholders involved in defining and complying with legal obligations for information:

Atlas LCC for corporate legal departments to establish and monitor legal holds and to manage the discovery of information.

Atlas ERM for enterprise retention management staff to develop and sustain information retention programs across business units, applications and repositories, and country boundaries

Policy Portals for individual employees and IT staff to easily look up relevant legal holds and retention schedules so they can readily determine how to manage their information in compliance with company and legal mandates

Policy Enforcement Services to automate legal holds, information collection and retention periods on data in various systems such as Documentum, fileshares, Sharepoint, and business applications so that companies can very efficiently enforce their policies and legal obligations

PSS Systems will be demonstrating Atlas at LegalTech New York February 5th through 8th booths 2606 through 2609.
