Companies continue to struggle with the concept of data source maps, including how and why one should be developed. Although the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure do not require companies to map all the sources of data in their enterprise, companies are expected to disclose information on sources of potentially relevant data with some degree of specificity in some litigation situations.
